Jacksonville to Tallahassee: A Speed Trip

Save-A-Lot grocery stores have been something of a secret pleasure of mine, lately. It was my first day heading west from Jacksonville, and the notion of getting a 40oz container of peanut butter for $3.19 really appealed to me. I stopped in, and set my eyes for the shelves. While I was comparing prices and ingredients of canned beans, I met Glory, an employee and jovial spirit. Her smile was wide and her heart was lovely to watch as we discussed "sticking it to Walmart and Winn Dixie by lowering prices here at Save-A-Lot." I needed to keep going, so I left the building with my groceries. As I was almost finished packing up my bicycle, Glory calls my name from the entrance of the store, and hangs a necklace around my neck - one you would find at a dollar store when Valentines Day is coming around the corner, emblazoned with "I Love You" lettering and of sparkling pink color.

"You be safe now, honey. Let the good Lord watch over and protect you."

This was my first time ever being bestowed with a gift like this so quickly after meeting someone. I was speechless.

"Hey fellas," Glory called to two gentlemen standing over by the entrance of the shop, "He's riding his bicycle to California!"

"What? No way!" Cried the two men, coming over and introducing themselves to me - Cory and Barry. I quickly explained what I was doing with this adventure, and as soon as I was finished Barry asks me a question.

"Do you mind if we pray for you?"

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how I found myself in a prayer circle at the entrance of Save-A-Lot grocery stores, 40 miles west of Jacksonville!

On this leg of the journey I found myself routinely speeding through the mileage, doing 50+ days without realizing it. I literally ran through to Tallahassee in about a week, so not that much was happening except riding and sleeping...

Making food with/for new friends is always my favorite thing. I spent a day and a half in Tallahassee with my host Tailor (who happens to be a vegan), so that definitely challenged my culinary skills to the max - below we have sweet potato/banana pancakes

Heading up north to Auburn, Alabama next...stay tuned and get stoked!
